After GM has unveiled a Concept GS at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, the GS will make it into production sometime this year and be on sale, as a 2012 model.
The since the Regal is completely based off the Opel Insignia, the GS is the twin of the OPC version of the Opel. The GS will come with new gearboxes, either you can have a six-speed automatic or manual gearbox, the car will have most of the concept’s components, except the production model will keep the front wheel drive that is on the base model Regal.
The GS has new and larger brakes, by Brembo, HiPerStrut front suspension struts, and 19 or 20 inch rims to choose from. It has been said that the GS can sprint 0 – 60 mph in under 7 seconds and that the GS comes with the Buick’s Interactive Drive Control System, including GS mode, which makes the instrument panel glow white when the GS mode is activated.
The new engine that will be in the GS is the Ecotec 2L turbo-charged engine, that produces 255 hp and 295 lbs of torque. Other features of the GS are racing-sport steering wheel with metal sport pedals, 12-way power-adjustable driver and front passenger heated seats, including four-way power lumbar. The GS-specific black interior with a satin-finish instrument panel, steering wheel and console.
No information about pricing has been released to the public, but it couldn’t be much higher than the base model Regal, which starts at $26,360 USD.
