2012 Ford Focus


After being first unveiled at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, was only a 2011 pre-production model, then shortly later, a new production was unveiled, slightly different, but then went into production being of this year, as a 2012 model.

The new Focus comes in either a 5-door hatchback, sedan or an estate. A Electric version of the Focus will be made, end of this year, and for the European market, end of next year, as a 2013 model. It is said that there will be a ST version, that will be in production beginning of next year, this version was first unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, and a RS could also be made, depending if enough people want it. The estate version is not yet available in the North American market.

The engines available for the new Focus are a selection of 1.6L and 2L engines, all of them are I4 engines. The 2.0 L Duratec Ti-VCT I4 GDI is only avalibe for the North American and Russian market and the 2.0 L EcoBoost I4 is only for the ST model. Gaxs effieceny is about 26-28 MPG street and 36-38 MPG highway, depending if you get an automatic or manual gearbox. The largest engine available is known to produce 160 hp, not sufficient information about the other engines.

The Focus Electric, in it’s current state, as it could change as it enters production, has a 23 kWh, liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack, with a range of 100 mi on a single charge, and a top speed of 84 mph. A full recharge  takes 3½ hours using a charging station powered from a standard 240 volt socket. A 120-volt convenience cord is also included allowing slower recharging from North American standard 120-volt outlets.

More information about the Focus Electric, is that it features a single-speed fixed ratio transmission with integrated parking pawl, and It is controlled using a traditional PRNDL selector stick identical to that used in the automatic transmission-based combustion engine version of the Ford Focus. Most of the Focus Electric is identical to the petrol and diesel versions.

The Base model is currently on sale, with a base price starting at $18,200 USD, the TS model price is unknown and it is unknown if an Estate version will make it to the North American market.
