A Set of New Tires Can be Cost Effective

I have to change my car’s tires. When I purchased the car about three months ago I knew then, it needed a full set of tires. I have left it until now as I spent all my money on purchasing the car, so I had to save up. Now I have a couple of considerations to take in to account. The car has the wrong size wheels and tires on, the car is a high performance sports car, so the correct tire size and speed rating is paramount to safety. And lastly the decision will be based on affordability whilst not allowing quality to be affected.

The tires currently on the car are 175/65/HR15, I have three bald ones and the other is just about legal. I am unable to use the car at the moment. The spare is nowhere near the right size and I would also be surprised if it even fits the car. The added complication is I have three steel wheels and two alloys. The wheel nuts are different for steel and alloy. This makes changing them a little more expensive.

After consulting the handbook it says the tire or the däck as the Swedish people say and wheel size should be 205/40/ZR17, these are big tires and the wheels I have cannot accept this size. I will have to locate a set of wheels and tires. I will look for a package that offers alloys and new tires. I do not want to purchase secondhand tires, as you never know the history. They could have been run flat or curbed who knows?

I visited a large tire outlet. There were winter and summer tires of any type. I got to know that vinterdäck in Swedish means winter tire. They had a huge selection of wheel and tire packages. I knew the size but the style was still unknown to me. I have to ensure I purchase wheels that suit the car and enhance the overall looks. The retailer had a couple of pictures of my car with different styles of wheel. They were all alloys, some chrome and some matt black. I decided on a shiny satin chrome effect. They seem to suit the car and match the shiny bits already on the car. The tires had to be chosen next.

Well it seems the 205/40/ZR17 tires are few and far between. The tire retailer offered me some alternatives, but I want to keep the car standard. If I change the size, I have to change the speedo drive etc. I have purchased the wheels and ordered the tires. I have to wait about ten days for the delivery of the imported tires. I will have my car stored by them until the tires and wheels are fitted. They are fitting a new performance exhaust whilst we wait.

I am so excited about the whole wheel, tire and exhaust make over. It will bring the car back to standard and enhance the looks and performance. I will have it MOT’d when all the work is done.
