Choosing Your First Car

Yes, you may say what does a woman know about cars? Well this woman knows very little. However what I do know is that the three cars I have had have been very different and as a woman who knows very little about cars, all I can give is my opinion.

• My first car, which at the time I was very proud of, was a Fiat Punto. 5 doors, lots of room, c.d player. I was happy with it for about a month. Then things start going wrong. The clutch needed changing, the breaks were failing, it seemed to have a mind of its own and it was extremely expensive getting it repaired, so much so that I decided to get rid! After talking to other people who had also owned Fiat Puntos, the same conclusion was reached. That they would never buy  a Fiat Punto again.

• My second car was much smaller -  a small Nissan Micra. Cheap as I bought it from a close friend and got a good deal. A lot cheaper than the Punto aswell. A great little runner it was too. No problems other than tyre changes. It was a pretty basic car but it did the job and if I hadn’t scraped the entire side of it damaging it more or less beyond repair, I may have kept it a lot longer than I did.

• So onto the last car – A Toyota Yaris. I was so pleased when I got this. I remember wanting one when I first saw them back in 1998/99. Here it was, my very own Toyota Yaris. Three door, racing car green, nice and spacious. It did the job perfectly and for the two years that I owned it I never had  single problem with it. It even took me on my first long journey down to Oxford with no problems.

So there we have it – three cars owned by a woman driver.

My favourite has to be the Toyota Yaris hands down, with the NIssan Micra – although basic, my second favourite. However the Fiat Punto rates next to nothing with me.
