Aster expecting a few creaks through the structure, it’s a surprise not to hear any. There’s little body roll for its age, either, though fresh dampers no doubt help. You’re aware of sitting near the rear wheels due to the short wheelbase (7ft 10in), but the tail doesn’t threaten to step out at moderately playful cornering speeds. It steers neutrally if not that quickly, with some kickback, feeling reassuringly clamped to the road most of the time. Or at least in the dry. Brake early for a corner – the discs need only a gende nudge to scrub off speed – turn in, nail the apex, and then press on to the next one. For what purports to be a GT, the 3 3 0 is pretty raw in places and feels more like a sports car on back roads. Much more so than the earlier, 250-series road cars. It is certainly not the ’soft’ Ferrari you may have been led to expect.
