Honda Civic History

The Honda Civic was introduced to the North American market in 1972. Since, the Civic has become the top-selling and most reliable vehicle available.

It’s been called many names throughout the world like Quint, Ballade, Concerto, Domani. Regardless, in 1972, the world was given the Honda Civic. The Civic has grown to become the most popular car in the world forty years later.

The Honda Civic was first produced in 1972 and introduced into the North American market as a 1973 model. The car was powered by a 1.2 litre engine and came in a two-door coupe or three door hatchback. Honda neglected to do their homework on the North American climate, however. For the first three years of its existence, the car rusted out at a rapid pace, especially in northern areas where road salt is used to melt snow and ice.

In the 1980’s, the Civic Sedan four door came along. Shortly after, the first SI model came out along with the sporty CR-X version.

1.6 million Honda Civics have been bought in Canada since 1973. The Civic has been Canada’s top selling vehicle for the past thirteen years and with the release of the ninth generation Civic in mid-2011, it can be safely assumed that that will not change for 2011. All Civics sold in Canada, with exception to the Hybrid models, are assembled at the Honda Production Plant in Alliston, Ontario, Canada.

Throughout the world, the Honda Civic is a popular choice of personal vehicles. In countries outside of North America, it sometimes goes by a different name (Ballade, Concerto, Domani) but it is always of the same high quality standard that is expected from Honda.
