Apart from the windshield wiper solution, other car liquids hardly get quickly used up. Whenever their level drops, it can almost always mean that there is a leak. You can identify a car fluid by its colour and perhaps its viscosity. For instance, a clear or yellowish liquid with a slippery consistency is brake fluid, the green or blue sticky fluid is coolant, honey or dark-coloured, greasy fluid is engine oil, honey or dark-coloured thick fluid with a chestnut smell is gear oil, the slippery reddish fluid is transmission fluid while the bluish, watery liquid is the windshield wiper solution. If a leakage is suspected, take the following steps:
i.Identify and know the kinds of fluid your vehicle uses.
ii.Open the bonnet and visually inspect the engine and its compartment for any sign of dripping
iii.Inspect the underneath of the car checking for wet spots or drips clinging to the bottom of the car’s carriage.
iv.Spread a white cloth or other non-absorbent material underneath the engine compartment overnight. If there’s a leak, the material will have tell-tale marks of the drip.
v.The piece of information in (iv) above, will be useful for the mechanic to diagnose the problem, if the need arises.
