How to Reduce Car Fuel Consumption

Don’t ignore the quantity of fuel your vehicle consumes. Take practical steps to reduce the amount of money you spend on petrol or diesel.

Every car owner spends money on maintaining the car to maximize its utility and lifespan. A part of this budget goes to fuelling. You may suddenly notice a mileage that is not commensurate with the amount of money you had been spending on fuelling the same car over the same period without any visible driving symptoms. If the changes are major, it is advisable to pay a visit to your mechanic otherwise, try the following tips:
1.Remove unnecessary weight or load from the back seat, boot or roof rack.
2.If you’re caught up in a traffic jam or are immobile for up to 5 minutes, turn off the engine.
3.Ensure that all your tyres are inflated to the recommended pressure as low pressure results in poor mileage.
4.Almost all cars, except older ones, need a once yearly tune-up or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. Older cars will require a more frequent tune-up.
5.The air-filter should be changed every 5-6,000 miles.
6.No matter how tempting, don’t exceed 70-75 miles per hour on the highway.
7.Check a slipping clutch. If not properly adjusted, a slipping clutch can burn off your fuel.
8.The air conditioner should only be turned on when it is absolutely necessary.
