Increase your Cars Power!

How to Increase the power from your car

I’m a member of my local motor-club and enjoy taking part in motor sport events like auto tests, although I use an old rust bucket for that ! When I’m at events or socialising with friends from the motor-club one big question is how can I increase the power from my car? Below is a list I have compiled using my own experience and expert knowledge I learnt from motor mechanics I have asked and worked with at such events as well as books I have consulted and many hours grasping a spanner and just feeling like one.

1, Using a Fuel Additive every time you fuel up such as an octane booster, will increase the acceleration and performance of your car.

2, Constantly using cheap fuel and running your car on fumes will cause blockages in your fuel system and reduce your power, consider using brand fuel and or a fuel octane booster and as a rule filling up before you go under a quarter of a tank.

3, Lighten the Load; Empty everything you don’t need, all the junk in the boot, spare wheel, maybe even the back seats, my last auto test car had like 100bhp but it only had 1 seat and a steering wheel, I ripped everything out with a claw hammer, its surprising how much that increases the performance.

4, If your car has an Electronic Ignition System then its worth checking out if you can upgrade the ECU chip to increase your cars performance, this works by altering the air fuel mixture, and most of the time it results in an increased MPG, bonus !

5, Service your car. You would be surprised how many precious horses escape from your engine after a few years and a few forgotten services, doing a big service and changing the oil and spark plugs and all the filters and checking everything over and cleaning the fuel system should bring your car back to near factory specs, many cars are running up to 20% less powerful when they rolled out the factory as a result of poor servicing.

6, increase the air flow into your engine, simple one really the more air that goes into your engine the more power your can produce, consider increasing the size of your air filter, using ram scoop or just fitting an induction kit

7, Increasing the air flow out of your engine is also useful for increasing performance as it lets more air enter your engine, chopping the exhaust off is not really an option but fitting a straight through exhaust pipe is better, or the cheaper option, I removed my exhaust pipe as far as the middle silencer box ( usually where the cat is in more modern cars ) and replaced it to the end with a straight piece of pipe, sounds pretty good too !
