A well known fact about generators or machines is that no one is 100% efficient or perfectly made not to develop faults. It could develop faults months or a year after purchase.The faults colud be minor or major and the worst part is that the so-called experts charge high rates to get minor faults fixed and the most intresting part is that you can actually fix those faults and save money.
Here are minor Generator faults to check before going to spend money on experts;
-If the Genertor doesn’t start: check oil level.if low refill(in some cases if you force the generator to start when oil level is low it can damage the engine)
Remove the spark plug(usually located close to the engine) and check if the spark plug has soaked oil or carbon (as this may hinder it to produce the spark need to start the generator) clean using little petrol or scratch gently to remove carbon content.
If the Generator suddenly stops:check oil level if low refill, check and clean the spark plug.
If it doesnt produce current: check if the wire is properly plugged in or check for an obstruction in the plug.
-Trace if the wire if the wire is broken some where and rejoin it.
-If you can check your control switch if the wires are properly connected and rejoin if necessary.
If the Generator flunctuates(i.e goes high and low or acts like it wants to off): usually this is caused by little or no fuel.
-If there is fuel switch it off and check for traces of water in the tank, if there is remove the pipe connecting the tank to the engine or caberator and empty the tank in a bowl,seperate the mixture using a seperating funnel.
pour back the fuel in the generator and restart if it continues after 40mins consult your expert to check the caberator
If the fuel leaks: check if the pipe is properly connected either to the tank or caberator.
