Renault Megane 1.5dci Sports Tourer Dynamique Tom-tom – Third Update 10th December 2011

We have now owned the Megane for more than six months and have driven over 7,000 miles in that time at an average of 53.434mpg.

A brief re-cap, we had a 2004 Nissan Almera Tino 1.8 petrol car and having fitted a roof box for UK holidays I was shocked to discover that on a long motorway journey the car had only averaged 27.7mpg.  The car was having increasing problems and would have cost a great deal to get through its MOT and as such we decided to change to a more economical and newer diesel car.  After a lot of research, described in the first article, we chose the Renault…… and what a cracking decision that was.

In the last quarter the style of driving has altered slightly in that my wife is travelling more into Manchester city centre and even with the worse driving conditions she has still managed to keep the mpg over 50 on all fill since the change of work style.

The parking sensors and the inbuilt Tom-Tom have come into their own with inner city driving and tiny car parks and with trips to Leeds and the joy of Ikea!  The load space in the Megane has proven to be amazing as we won an exercise machine via Ebay and were able to slip it straight into the back of the car with no hassle.  The flat loading floor makes it very easy to fill up the car and the rear seats are easy to lower to increase the floor area, even with a child seat fitted.

The automatic lights and wipers are fantastic and work a treat, there have been no problems with the car at all since purchase, it feels a lot smaller to drive than it actually is, it defrosts quickly in the mornings, is economical and is not overstated or audacious.  A fantastic car.

In the first six months of ownership we have had no problems with the car, it appears well built and has managed every task we’ve thrown at it and then some, its great to drive and cheap to run.  I asked my wife to rate it out of 10 and she has given it a 10!  And frankly, I cannot argue with that.  First rate car!
