Safety is an extremely important issue on the minds of many consumers. It is an integral aspect of all consumer goods, without safety features implemented in automobiles there would be many injuries, some which may even cause death. Safety is essentially the quality of averting injury, danger or loss. Having safety features in automobiles is very important because automobiles are used daily by millions of people every day and if there was no safety features there would major accidents on both local streets as well as highways. Safety features make cars safer for if an accident had occurred between two cars you can wear a seatbelt to prevent injuries or at the very least the severity of the injuries. Furthermore, rear view mirrors assist drivers while changing lanes and airbags cushion the face and the upper body getting hit hard against solid objects such as the dash board, wind shields and side windows. Moreover, Seat belts restraint and attempt to hold the passengers in place in case of an accident. Three very important safety features that automobiles have are seatbelts, airbags, and rear view mirrors which play a significant role of reducing injuries when driving an automobile.
Manufacturers include safety features in automobiles to provide consumers a safe product that could help prevent accidents, limit injuries and avoid death. Three prominent safety features are seatbelts, airbags, and the rear view mirrors. These safety features are important because they have helped save many lives which have during severe automobile collisions. Using a rear view mirror one can notice if anyone is honking at you from behind. It used very importantly when turning because another car could collide if you go at the same time when turning right, left and while changing lanes. Airbags are used to prevent people from flying from their seats into wind shield. Seat belts are used to hold an individual stationary supposing two automobiles were in involved in a collision. Drivers and both passengers at the back may collide into interior objects such as the window, persons, seats and the steering wheel. Seat belts help prevent the people in the back causing distractions for the driver. To verify how effectively safety belts, cars are tested with dummies wearing seat belts and while other dummies are not. Wearing seat belts in a car and crashing them into a wall, crash tests have consistently shown that the dummies do not fly out of the car when seat belts were on, without the seat belts they would have been tossed around and out of the automobile like rag dolls. These safety features help protect people from injuries waiting to happen.
For safety features to be efficient they must help protect you and ensure safety when in an automobile. Seatbelts are well known and can help stop people from being seriously injured or killed when putting it on when in an automobile. Seats are important because if you don’t wear it, most likely there a chance of you injuring person since the result may be colliding into someone in the car. When seatbelts are worn correctly most of the collision or stopping forces get applied to across your chest and pelvis, which are able to withstand collision forces. Airbags are an effective safety feature; its goal for an airbag is to slow down the passenger motion by inflating a flexible envelope immediately when a crash occurs. There are two types of airbags frontal airbags, and side air bags. Side airbags deploy when there is side impact crashes these side air bags usually deploy from the back of the seats and doors to protect both passengers in the front and rear. There are also frontal airbags which deploy into frontal crash to help protect front seat people of getting hurt. The frontal airbag is usually found somewhere packed in the steering wheel and it deploys when you crash. Frontal airbags are designed to help protect heads and chests of a person almost getting his head hit the steering wheel, instrumental panel, and a windshield. Side airbags are important when a vehicle strikes another vehicle from the sides because they provide head protection, it is very useful usually most crash occur straight and directly and not by the side. The airbags generally attempt to limit the magnitude of the force that was applied on the driver and passengers in an automobile in the event of a collision. Rear view mirrors are an essential safety feature; because without it people would not be able have a view of who was behind them and at what velocity the car is travelling at which unavoidably can lead to more crashes. Rear view mirrors are very important since they give the driver a mirror to see what is taking place around the car, on the road and aids the driver in making wise decisions while on the road. The rear view mirror can be adjusted to suit preferences of the individual driver and can be positioned in a way as to gather as much information from the surroundings in and around the automobile. This mirror shows a reflection of what’s on the road at any given moment so one does not have to look back forth to see whether other automobiles are coming or not. These features help save the lives of many and without which there can be many injuries.
These safety features show somehow how physics plays a role of how they operate or work. The importance of seatbelt is to hold the passenger to prevent them flying out of the car. When a car stops and collides with another car it loses acceleration very fast, which is referred to as deceleration. By observing Newton’s Law of inertia you can understand this situation. The object that was hit provides a force s so therefore there is a change in direction. By putting on seatbelts you get the same type of impact from if you didn’t have a seatbelt because the seatbelt catches you from the force of the object. The force from the car would come from either the windshield, dashboard when it crashed into a person. Airbags also the principles of physics because it helps the people in the car reduce speed so they don’t get injured. Since an airbag is an object in the car it has mass, speed, and direction. The object can be a person and if they are not secured with an airbag they’ll be in same direction and same speed until the car stops. Since people have momentum which is the product of a person mass and velocity in order to stop the momentum a force must act upon the object. Airbags show that the more time it takes the person to try slowing them down, so then less damage causes to the person. The rear view mirrors in car is what you call a convex mirror which wide angle of vision, and make it seems that the object small in size for the objects they represent. The mirror shows that an image shown from the rear view mirror is reduced in a scale for it to see in the mirror. By observing the technique ray tracing and by moving your head from side to side you can observe parallax effects. By observing parallax effects you know tell that the distance from the mirror to the image is much shorter than the distance from the object to the mirror. After learning about these safety features we understand why it is of utmost importance to have these safety features for they limit the injuries caused in crashes and aid in the safe operation of an automobile.
