There are rings of steel that surround the vehicle operator, and maintain complete structural integrity. The steel is specially designed to collapse away from the vehicle occupant, if in a collision. The engine of the Subaru Outback is a unique design called the Subaru Boxer. It delivers excellent performance. It is different to other engines, as the engine pistons move in a level orientation, parallel to the ground. This engine specification allows for more of the power and energy created from the engine to be passed to the Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.
