The Biggest Myths About Your Traffic Ticket

When it comes to traffic tickets there are a lot of myths going around that you should know so that you do not fall for them. It is easy to believe them because you do not want any black spots on your driving record, but as good as the myths sound they are not a reality and should not be thought as such.

Overpayment Of Traffic Tickets

This is probably the one myth that you will hear the most when you get a traffic ticket. The idea is that if you overpay your fine that the ticket will not show up when your driver’s record is pulled. Supposedly when you overpay your ticket the court will send a refund, and if you do not cash that check the case remains open and therefore you cannot get marks on your record. That may sound great, but it is not true. You get the points the moment you guilty by the court and the payment of a traffic ticket has nothing to do with it.

Seat Belt Violation Tickets

This one is another big myth. People believe that not having a seat belt on can be the sole reason to get pulled over. The fact is that in many states the police cannot pull you over just for the seat belt violation. Other auto parts like head lights however can be a reason to get stopped. The police would need a different reason to dive you a traffic ticket for the seat belt violation. If you are speeding and you do not have the seat belt on, then you can get the ticket for not wearing the belt. That said you should always wear your seat belt anyway because of safety issues and because if another violation is present like texting while driving it would be an extra fine that you would need to pay.

Radar Fooling

The use of radars and cameras to detect violations and send you traffic tickets is at an all-time high. Because of that there are plenty of myths that you will find about ways to fool radars and cameras. One of the funnier ones is that if you hang chains to the side of the car, the radar will not detect you. That is a myth. the radar will detect your car and a fast moving chain. Many products are sold that claim they will send a reflection to the camera which will make your license plate invisible to the camera. Until now there are no known products sold in auto parts stores or the net that will prevent you from getting a traffic ticket by using a cover for your license plate.
