Top Classic Sports Cars


In the last sixty years there has been a plethora of sports cars coming on to the market. Most of these cars have become classics and are lovingly restored by their fanatical owners. Indeed if it wasn’t for these dedicated enthusiasts much of our motoring heritage would be lost forever.

So which are the top classic sports cars of all time?

Jaguar E type. This sleek miracle of a sports car came onto the market in 1961. The original car had a 3.8 litre engine with triple carburettors. The car came with a fixed roof or a roadster. To but a perfectly restored Jaguar E Type today may cost over $50.000

Aston Martin DB5. This car became famous with James Bond movies. This car has a four litre engine and like the Jaguar above had triple carburettors. This car was every young man’s dream. The car has a top speed of 142 miles per hour.

Triumph TR5. This small compact sports car had a limited production run from 1967/68. It boasted a 2.5 litre engine. The car was significant as it was one of the first sport cars to have fuel injection.

MGB GT. V8 This car had a long production run from 1962 to 1980. This car has a top speed of 125 miles per hour and can go from 0 to 60 in 8 seconds. There are also roadster versions of this car.

Austin Healy Sprite. This car was made over a number of years and was an affordable sports car and became very popular in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Sunbeam Alpine. Launched in 1959 as a two seater sports car. It supported a 1.5 litre engine. It could do 0 to 60 in 13 seconds.

MGA. Over 100.000 cars were made and the vast majority were sold overseas mainly to the United States. This an iconic little car and was loved by its owners.

BMW 328 roadster. A classic rally car produced between 1936 and 1940. The car still looks good today and a car in good condition will be very sought after.

Corvette Stingray. This is a concept car, which has stood the test of time and is another example on how some cars refuse to be dated in appearance.

Ford Mustang (first generation). This is another iconic car and a car in perfect condition will be much sought after and a good financial investment.
