Priming The Product

It is important that you make sure that the vehicle is ready for sale before entering it under the ‘used cars’ section. You need to do a little more than just a trip to the carwash for a full valet. You need to make sure that you have taken it for a full service to make sure that there are no problems that need attention. If you are prepared to resolve these before the sale then do so. If not, you need to make notes of the issues and include this in the sales pitch. You need to make sure that the potential buyers are informed. After this you need to get all the paperwork in order and ready for presentation to the buyer.

Where To Sell

The next decision is where to sell the car. Used cars for sale can be sold through a variety of platforms but the most popular are:

·         Through classified ads in the newspaper or in any of the trade publications specific to used cars.

·         You have the option of selling your vehicle online. You can do this as a private sale or as a listing on one of the sites designed for and dedicated to used car sales.

·         You could approach a dealership and see if they will take on the responsibility of selling your vehicle. Usually dealerships will buy the vehicle from you themselves.

·         Alternatively you could just put a ‘for sale’ sign on your car and drive it around.

When To Sell

Finally you need to make sure that the timing of your sale is correct. You need to only put your car on the market when you are sure that it is in as good a condition as is possible and that the market is open. Depending on where you are, the purchase of vehicles might be higher at certain times of the year.

Selling used cars requires preparation.
