Buying Another Car

It was high time for another car.

Some ten years ago we had bought our last car. We eyed it in a car yard prior to going on a interstate holiday to Tasmania off the mainland  of Australia. It was a Toyota Camry Limited Edition. It was a really good car that went like a charm admittedly it had high kilometres at the time of purchase due to being a sales person’s car.I had the car checked by my mechanic and his apprentice at the time. He could not fault it and seemingly was well worth the purchase. The engine purred and it was a tee bar automatic with overdrive. The engine was a big four cylinder fitted with a twin overhead cam. there was insulation under the bonnet to protect against fire. I would have it serviced on a regular basis.

We would mainly have the car for city use what have you for visits and shopping as well as outings especially on beach day outings as well as country drives and used for work as well until we sold the second car due to age and performance. We had the car for many years and I got used to it especially because of the good size being a sedan with good sized boot to fit odds and ends inside. The car also had a good air conditioner and heater which is vital. As the years rolled on, the car had problems with oil leaks and as it got serviced we had addressed these problems but as some were repaired others would re-emerge like a sponge of sorts. It became very expensive and literally it was like throwing money down a big black hole without a bottom to it. I conferred with a service representative that it would be well worth our while buying another car as he would. At the time money was a problem but as luck would have it my life changed where I was able too release some finances to effect a purchase such as this.

We went to this car yard and the green Asian guy that we first met was so determined we have a test drive of a new car that we favoured. We were also asked to sign papers within the first fifteen minutes. This was far to fast for us, we only wanted to know how much our car was valued as a trade in. We were kept waiting and we thought it was over the top for a main car service yard, especially a new car division. We wanted to see what price so we could visit another to weigh up the differences in prices. I had to be firm yet another person well the supervisor to the green one thought once we gave a price we would be off to another yard. Well it was half right as we wanted the 2010 Toyota Hatchback which we put on order to be manufactured at the factory. We went to another sales yard but returned after so many phone calls to come back. I found all staff to be good except the New Car Sales manager, he simply had no people skills and was not friendly in the least finding he had a rude aspiration to his personality. I even overheard him talking to a contact over the phone he was so rude it was unbelievable I felt like walking out at one instant as he questioned a good price we already had. Admittedly I bullshitted about advertised prices claiming it was lower than they alluded too, it was a manual price but mine was an automatic where they are usually a little more expensive. The car is great with added extras of tinted windows, a clear polish in paint work and also reverse sensors which are worth their weight in gold.

You did well to make your car last ten years. We bought our last new car two years ago and we intend to make it last, as we use it very little. It is a pity some salesmen need to be so rude. It is a wonder this salesman will sell anything. An interesting read.
