Car Crisis! What to Do in Case Of..

We know we need to be ready in the case of an emergency.

Flat tire
Drive to the shoulder of the road immediately. (The longer you run on a flat tire, the greater damage you cause to the wheel.) Take out your tire wrench, jack and spare tire. Loosen the bolts then lift the car using the jack. Take out the flat tire, and then stick in the spare tire. It’s not as easy as it sounds, so call your dad, driver or guy friend for help. The bolts are tight, and the tire, heavy.

Overheating
A car that overheats won’t run. Pull over when the needle on the temperature dial gets close to the “H”. Lift the hood, but distance yourself from the car. (The steam could cause first-degree burns. Never open the radiator cap. The boiling water can scald you.) As soon as it colds down, refill the radiator with distilled water.

Busted brakes
Bring the gear down to second while pressing gently on the acceleration until the car slows down. Release the clutch and acceleration completely and the car will stop. Make sure you are on the side of the road to avoid obstructing other vehicles. Call a mechanic or a tow truck.

In school or away from home, your car is your personal space.
Wash it everyday. Vacuum-clean the interiors to prevent them from turning into a breeding ground for insects. Anytime you feel there’s something wrong with the car, like any irregular noise or vibration, or if you spot a leak, have it inspected without delay to prevent any serious problem. Good maintenance will make your ride a lot more enjoyable. Treat it with tender love and care. But remember, it’s still just a car, so don’t let it own you. Buckle up and drive safely!
