It is a good idea to always know what the part you need cost from a car parts store. The Internet is a good place to look for prices and most of the time it will be cheaper. A good mechanic will not mind telling you the difference between buying the cheaper or the higher priced part if you are working on you own car. Sometimes it is better to buy the better made part because it will last longer. If a mechanic also makes money off the parts they put on your car they will always use the part that cost more.
