Car Tech:
Automakers are working hard to stop the problems Toyota had in their own models before it begins. As we all know, Toyota vehicles had a slight problem accelerating without being prompted and it often had problems stopping without hitting something first. Obviously, Toyota has become a less popular car to buy; in fact, according to many surveys many Americans are less willing to buy Toyotas in the future. No other automobile companies want to take this hit, but they all acknowledge accidents do happen and sometimes, things are built too hastily and sloppily so they are putting in a new system.
The system is called the brake override, a system that should probably have been created much earlier and installed in all vehicles a long time ago. It dose exactly what the name says it dose; in the case of acceleration, whether it is caused by faulty wiring or the acceleration pedal being stuck under the mat, the brakes take total priority and the car will stop.
The tech is still being worked on and it has worked with some cars and not in others, but it is expected to be a feature in all vehicles by the 2011 series. It is good to see that the auto companies are taking initiative on this problem before people get hurt and that the people who have been hurt haven’t been so in vain.
