One in Seven Drivers Does Not Have Car Insurance!

Is auto insurance too expensive?

Bills, Bills, Bills! They are the only thing in life that we can every really count on! They are there every month whether we like them or not!  And we cannot escape them!  Yet, some of these bills seem to be a waste of money.  I’m talking about insurance bills!

Every month we pay our premiums and we see nothing in return.  It’s not like we have a brand new television in our living room or a big shiny ring on our fingers.  Yet, this insurance is necessary for if we ever get into an accident or something happens to our car it will be covered and the car will be fixed or replaced.  The problem is that insurance is expensive and these days people are struggling to pay their rent and put food on the table so sometimes paying for something we cannot see just doesn’t seem worth it.

I was listening to the radio on the way home for a doctor’s office this morning and in one of their commercials they said that one in seven people is driving without insurance.  I believe it!  I believe it because I have been there.  Years ago I had lost my job and was barely putting food on my table so I had to skip a payment on my car insurance which ended up turning into a few payments and then I lost my insurance because I couldn’t catch up.  I am sure many people are dealing with the same thing now and while car insurance may not be as expensive as health insurance it is still a lot of money.

Of course during the time that I went without insurance I had gotten into a fender-bender on the highway (my first and thankfully only accident).  Fortunately no one was hurt but there was damage so I had to pay the other driver off.  I was lucky that it was only $500 but to me that was a huge amount because I didn’t have a job.

Many people that are struggling because of job issues are having problems paying their insurance premiums and end up losing their insurance.  And if they get pulled over without insurance they can get into big trouble.  Yet, what can they do if they cannot afford to pay for insurance? What’s the answer?

I have been out of work since March and I can say that making the monthly payments for car insurance eats me up inside but I don’t want to have to worry about what would happen if I didn’t have it.  Yet, I know that if it was insurance or food for my family I would have to drop the insurance so my family could eat.  What would you do?

oh wow that is a staggering statistic. I understand many people have to choose between eating and paying bills and that just stinks in my opinion.
