Picking a Color for Your Car

Picking a Color for Your Car

What does the color car you pick say about you or related to how safe you are on the road?

When shopping for a new car,  or truck, you might know what color you want, but does color really matter?

Red Cars

Red gets a persons blood pressure up, it makes them hungry, it is a power color. Red cars are stopped by police more often than cars of other colors. Red is often used by people who want attention, and those who drive red cars, often get it, even if it is just from the cops.

Yellow Cars

Yellow is a color that most kids like but as adults we tend to dislike and have a hard time looking at for long. Yellow is a color that can be spotted from a distance easily. Many cities have painted their fire trucks and emergency vehicles yellow so they get noticed, this is also why most Taxis are yellow.. If your car is yellow you may find other drivers notice you easier on the road so you may be less likely to be hit.

Green Cars

Green is an interesting color, a blend of calming blue, and stimulating yellow. Green is not a particularly common color for cars but is often used on hybrids to give them more of an eco-friendly feel.

Blue Cars

Blue has long been a popular car color, especially for mini-vans. There are many shades of blue. People who drive blue cars tend to be practical, family oriented people.  Blue is typically a calming color, and an appetite suppressant. I don’t know if that means people don’t eat as much if they drive in a blue car, or not. Some of the lighter blues may be harder to see in some weather, such as on foggy days, or in a snow storm.

Silver and Grey

Silver and grey are very business like colors. Also very popular colors, they tend to be difficult to see in the dawn and dusk hours against the grey of the road and are harder to see on foggy days.

White

White cars are also often selected by business people. White cars are great, until you take them on a dirt road. As such they are more of a city vehicle. White is a bright and cheery color for the most part, but these cars are hard to see in a snow storm.

Black

This is a power color as well, but for somebody who may not quite as self centered as the person in the red car. A person who drives a black car might want to appear as a bit of a “bad boy”.  Black is harder to see at night, in the rain, and so forth. As well, on hot summer days the black vehicle becomes a toasty oven inside faster than other vehicles. I only once ever saw a car window explode as a result of the heat built up in a car, it was on a black SUV.

Orange and Gold

These are not as common as some of the other colors but orange and gold cars can stand out a bit more on the road than a grey vehicle, although not quite as much as the yellow car.

Interesting facts, I had no idea colors for cars had an emotional effect on people! My mom drove a white car but it got really dirty during the rainy season and she hardly washes it.

Guess I am self-centered as I drive a red car. Red is my favorite color. But I have had a light blue car which Hurricane Ivan took out and a stormy gray car that gave me a lot of problems so I traded it in. My husband drives a gold truck with black racing stripes. This was an interesting article, I really enjoyed it.
