Years ago, before greed rose to power here, you had some kinder people, better values. While some people may have held some things back and smaller issues may have resulted, the surface was a happier and simpler place. One could present a myriad of arguments as to positive contributions of technology to our advancement as a species, but frankly, it has so negatively and noxiously effected the way a majority of of generation thinks, feels, acts, expresses, judges, learns, reads, knows, and understands. We are surrounded by foolish masses, and at the root of this drastic, vile and stark shift is technology. Cell phones are man’s creative attempt at being in two places at once. If we were supposed to be able to be in two places in once we would be. Since there was no security blanket of always having a trustworthy solid friend in your hand, people would have to rely on instinct and trust the kindness of a stranger, and since everyone was in the same boat, everyone had to be nicer because everyone had to rely on people they didn’t know. It had to be a safer place because humans love themselves and all want what is best for them ultimately- the system works. Having landline phones was enough. One could keep in touch with people far away without having a phone on them at all times. People keep their phone with them now as if its a part of their body. Why hold so close something that has brought into fruition so many negatives. The book “Disconnect” by Devra Davis is very informative in uncloaking how the danger of radiation on a mass level is imminent with the amount of cell phones we have in use. The companies, hungry for profit, intentionally mask these dangers, to a point where cell phones have such a common, safe feel and have slipped under the radar to a point where questioning their safety you receive many a raised brow. There is a disconnect between the highly influenced and molded opinions of cell phones and the actual solid data. Which opens up an entire the realm to keep in mind: Who are the powers at work trying to shield us from information that is imperative in our decision making process? Moreover, what is their ultimate goal and how have they manipulated us? This applies in every category that big business has taken a hold of; entertainment, travel, food, music, politics, the environment, and array of other favorites. What I feel is the most evil contribution off the cell phone, however, is it’s amazing ability to forge phony bonds, and make more and more rare, real, true, solid, face to face in person connections. When two people bond, find that they agree, they connect. That connection and feeling of overwhelming understanding and satisfaction and passion is so hard to beat, and can only come to fruition in person through breaking down barriers of uncomfortable feelings and finding similarities and connections. The more you learn about and share with each other, the more you grow as people, the more you learn to trust each other, and learn to respect, sympathize with, value, relate to and love another being. You can also apply these new feelings and mentality to future relations, building your character and wisdom. And with this trickery of a constant companionship through a virtual and tangible means, these non replicable can not be created but instead phony, flimsy, cowardly bonds are formed, with shitty foundations and false unclear understandings of the relationship. When people are not face to face, they do not feel as easily because the aspects of body language, non verbal communication, inflection, and tone are absent, so over the phone or online communication only opens a door for misunderstanding, misconstruction, anger and cowerdess. Social networking sites, specifically at this time facebook, yield a similar crop of problems. For instance, ever notice how many people have it already decided in their mind who is weird and who is fine? They only like people who they already know and approve. Sometimes we are turned off to a person’s lack of social skills or they rub us the wrong way; but nowadays the overall constant pre-judgement of everyone you pass can be directly accredited to sites like facebook. Information online, true or not, spreads like wildfire. People accept it as truth, when anyone can say anything in a worldwide accessible forum. Know what you can trust, whats truthful and reliable, and if you don’t know for yourself, then make it a point to find out for yourself instead of always relying on that WWW. So if you are “friends” with someone on facebook, which basically translates to “if you had the balls to push a button solidifying the fact that you know someones name because you saw them at school, which is not real friendship”, they can now read anything about you and have unrestricted knowledge of your life that you don’t know if they have or not. People have to assume that they look at each other’s profile’s, right? So now how is the line drawn. Everyone is now just another fact, another piece of information to read, demeaning the humanness of us and the value in each of us individually. If you accept someone as a friend on facebook, you now don’t know how much knowledge that person has about you, what exactly they read, and what judgements, generalizations, and assumptions they have made about you. Now, you could argue that people 50 years ago still judged based on gossip, the only difference was that their gossip was spread only through word of mouth. This is true, and its exactly why this is much worse. We’re setting ourselves up with this one, each laying out all of our information in a similar, easy to comprehend, uniform format, for all to judge and process in their mind. This judgement is silent and almost subconsciously done because it only happens in your own head. People don’t usually surf the net together so this is a way of getting into the deepest corner of your mind, laying your whole world out there for you in simple terms and allowing you to judge away and form barriers and opinions that have no basis. Depending on how many facebook friends you have, you have greatly enhanced the number of eyes and opinions viewing your information, the quantities of information, and now you are sending it out. Meaning you can create an image of yourself how you would like others to view you- at your best, your most inspirational, confident, beautiful party suit. But thats not the truth! We all have a depressed side, an insecure, sad, stressed and dark side, and in making that side socially unacceptable, we’re making those emotions and those undeniable parts of ourselves out to be not allowed. If they become things we don’t like to discuss, then they don’t come up, and thats less for people to find solace in each other about. Times of hardship and unfortunate circumstances are when people come together best, and by deleting those hardships from our social world, we are denying ourselves a lot of compassion for each other. Everyone is putting up a major facade as to who they truly are, but since none of us ever branch out of our keyboard on our computer or our phone, we never even get to know these distant figures in person as anything more than our subliminal judgements of what we saw on facebook. It’s destroying social skills, its a horrible medium, and its getting worse and harder to explain, stop and change because many kids are too dumbed down and brainwashed to realize how stupid they are being. We’re constantly in search of something more convenient! Why did we allow them to convince us that everything has to be super easy. I find that I keep being led back to this idea that we are striving for absolute convenience, why!? I see this force feeding of convenience as being spread through fear and blind acceptance. Who are they to tell me what’s hard? They are attempting to profit off our fears that they are force feeding us to be afraid of in the first place. If anything, cell phones are inconvenient. They assure that every worry and every conflict is at your finger tips, always on your mind or ready to pop in and infect your mind at any moment, buzz, vibrate, or ring. You then have the pressure to pay for it, pay the bill, use it, watch what you say on it, keep in good condition, don’t get it stolen or lost, the social pressure of having the latest model of application or speed, all the while destroying your ability to attain true human contact because now you have a fresh crop of distractions and worries to burden you. Judge Brandeis of the Supreme Court once stated, “the greatest threat to democracy is an inert people”. Well if you look at this from an evil point of view, or just as a piece of advice, if you want to destroy democracy, what should you create? An inert people- a group of morons focused so much on their small opinion that they can’t see the big picture. Can’t come together on issues that are relevant to them all just because of little shit that has no baring overall! They’ve done a damn good job in this inert people scheme. We have forked over many of our rights and freedoms at the foot of their deception and connivery. They are destroying our minds with the mindnumbing television, our fooding with the genetic altercations, our water with the hydraulic freaking and our oil resources with our gas guzzlers. We are allowing ourselves to be susceptible to their mind takeovers with our lackadaisical attitudes! We’re the majority aren’t we? We allowed ourselves to fall into the hands and at the mercy of a heartless pack of assholes who want us as inert, useless, unaware, and conflicted as we can possibly be. They have us enslaved with the monetary system and how captivated we are by making and maintaining it. We enslave ourselves by working jobs we often despise just to get our share of the sacred dirty paper. But we can still stop it! In any system, you can only yield positive results if there is no corruptions in the facets running each step, once you invite greed and self interest in the mix, it is destined for failure, or at least for disparity. See the big picture. Why are there living things starving, living in immense pain and misery, while others dwell in lavish decadence and self absorption. Because one has a stack of dirty paper, and the other one has a meager pile? How is that morally ok? How can anything else matter when people receive no mercy and no sympathy when they suffer but everyone anticipates reviving help and empathy when they are in need. If humans were not all similar and supposed to “have each other’s backs”, than wouldn’t this yearning for mercy not be there? I feel and assert that we have been misled in a big fashion on huge levels, all ultimately steering us towards, whether this is the conventional meaning to you or not, enslavement. This is just a thought, I bet many of you have ideas, philosophies, knowledge and opinions on some of these very deep concepts and controversies. These ideas from our hearts, applied to the greater good on a large scale are what we need to spread to shed some light on this deception, to publicly unearth and reverse it. With this mindset, I urge and encourage each and every one of you to go down to occupy wallstreet. If you identify yourself as part of the oppressed masses, sympathize with them as humans, or see that with the turn of a tide you could become a part of it, you should go represent yourself and everyone else. Speak peacefully and eloquently, listen intently and thoughtfully, process openly and unbiased, and share eagerly and proudly. If we go into this revolution with attitudes like this, we can all have an understanding of each others ideas and a more open and realistic forum to change the scene. We are the future, and the future is changing. You can either be a part of, and influence the change, or you can sit back and let the world change around you, but we are at a point where too many people reserve the latter attitude and the changes are being made by the wrong people, the power is in the wrong hands. we hold the true power sheerly in our quantity. We ARE America, we are Americans, we are humans. We need to rediscover that love and understanding, and it is only then that we can truly begin to make impact.
