The first thing you need to do is make sure you are your passengers are safe. Have your seat belt on and make sure everyone else does too. It’s a lot easier to get into an accident when driving icy weather so be careful and buckle up.

Make sure you can see out of your car windows. Use your defroster as well as your windshield wipers to clear away any debris. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to wipe down your windows and mirrors on the outside before you start driving. Ice can build up on mirrors easily and you don’t want to have trouble seeing through your rear view mirror when snowing.

When turning or pushing up speed make sure that you do it slowly. It is very easy to slide or skid your car on a high way or in a sharp turn. Also, give cars around enough time for when you are turning or changing lanes. It can take much longer to brake when in snowy or icy environments. Giving ample time for other drivers will keep you and them safe.

Keep in mind that when you do skid turn your wheels towards the direction of the skid. Turning them away will just cause your vehicle to skid even more. Turn towards it to get out of the skid. Also, make sure you invest in some snow tires if you can. They are much more durable and can help when driving up or down hill. If you can’t buy snow tires for all four at least buy them for the back two.
