Road Tripping vs. Flying

The world is a mighty big place. It’s an extremely diverse and beautiful place too. It’s teeming with life and adventure in every single corner.

The world is a mighty big place. It’s an extremely diverse and beautiful place too. It’s teeming with life and adventure in every single corner. Yet however much people want to travel to see such places, they are normally restricted by something that life throws at them; whether this be holiday from work, looking after family, or just a lack of cash.

That’s why long term holidays and touring have become so popular. For those who can’t afford to take lots of regular short breaks, a one-off, once of a lifetime trip, is the ultimate adventure.

But where do you go and what is your method of transport?

Flying has long been a popular way to cover the entire globe in a short space of time, yet, it is extremely expensive. The phrase “round the world trip” is also misleading. Whilst you might travel around the world, you don’t necessarily stop everywhere you want to. The amount of things your can carry is also prohibitive.

Surely what is better is doing it properly, doing it ‘old school’.

Increasingly more people are taking out long term car hire and road tripping across countries, as opposed to flying.

When road tripping, you that initial thrill of plotting your destinations and organising your trip. You have to think about getting your guide books prepared for each country and reading up on the do’s and don’ts. You also get to choose your vehicle, who will no doubt turn be eventually be considered your fellow road tripping companion.

The beauty of jumping in and doing your trip yourself this way is that your path is not set in concrete. You’re allowed, or even compelled, to take a detour, choose another way round. This is something that you cannot control in a plane! Equally, pack as much as your heart desires!

You also have the safety of using a tested vehicle that is going to be suitable for your needs. Perhaps your motor at home is on the blink, or its fuel economy is awful, or even perhaps your car wouldn’t cope with the terrain? At least by investing long term car hire, you guarantee that your own personal vehicle will be safe and sound at home.

Price-wise, you should be making savings too. Long term car hire options are more affordable than the short term, and even your fuel consumption should become less as you become accustomed to driving your vehicle more.

If you really want to make the most of a trip of a lifetime, ditch the plane and jump into a car.
