Safe Driving – Tires Maintenance

Good tires care and maintenance practice will save your life and ensure a pleasant journey for you.

Tires is a part of the important elements to keep a vehicle moving on the road. It is the only part of the vehicle in contact with the surface of the road and allows the movement of the vehicle. Without a proper contact between the tires and the road surface, the journey will not be pleasant and it will also be dangerous as the failure of the tires may cause an accident.

It is crucial for the driver to know the condition of the tires. The elements to be observed before starting a journey are the inflation level of the tires including the air pressure and the condition of the tires surface and thread. These two elements are the most common elements that indicate whether the tires are safe to drive with or otherwise.

An article entitled Safe Driving – Proper Tires Inflation which have been published previously, is discussing on determining the right air pressure for the tires. The article can be found here.

The second element is on the inspection of the surface and thread of the tires. Tires surface and thread must always be in good condition to ensure proper grip between the tires and the road. The side wall of the tires must be free from cracks and punctures. Cracks and punctures on the tires’ side wall are part of the elements that cause sudden explosion of the tires.

Ensuring the thread condition is easy. All that need to be done is to observe for wear on the thread. Thread on the tires is an element that divert water from the surface of contact between the tires and the road. This element is crucial on the wet road to avoid slip or skid. Most tires manufacturer will design the tires with wear indicators at the bottom of the grooves of the tires’ thread. If the thread thickness is approaching this indicator, it is time to think for a new tires.

Another important element in tires car is the driving styles. Driving with care will ensure longer live of the tires. Sudden braking and skidding will shorten your tires’ life span. Sudden acceleration will also affect the tires as the sudden braking. So, the best way to care for the tires is drive carefully and be calm. Avoid sharp objects while driving and also during car wash.
