Safety belts are only worthwhile if they are used. They may one day save you from serious injury or death. Most road accidents result from people breaking safety rules or not taking the right precautions. Set an example to other road users by rigidly observing all rules of the road. Always get a good night’s rests before rigorous day of continuous driving. Give your vehicle a routine check on all safety parts such as breaks, clutch, transmission, steering, signal lights & horn before starting the day’s drive. Get the needed repairs done right away. Get the “feel” of the road when driving in the rain or when it’s foggy, or on unfamiliar roadways.
Observe posted speed limits and other traffic rules. Drive at a lower rate under adverse conditions. Do not travel faster than the reach of your headlights allows you. You have to see danger to avoid it. Keep your windshield and windows clean and unobstructed. If something goes wrong with your eyes, have an eye check-up at once. Whatever you do, wherever you go, by all means, keep that vehicle under control at all times.
Speed kills, so take it easy, avoid thrills and be safe. Remember, drive like hell, soon you’ll get there. Here are some of the personal safety rules while driving an automobile.
- 1. Your car doors should always be locked, even in your own garage. Make it automatic to lock all your doors.
- 2. After dark you never park where it’s dark. If you go there when it’s daylight, you never park where it will be dark when you come out.
- 3. If the only available spaces are dark, you sit in your locked car until one opens up in a lighted spot or go to a different place.
- 4. Even if your car is locked, you should always look underneath it from a safe distance. From 20-feet you can see under your car to the other side without crouching. Always ensure that you look inside your car before you get into your car. Do this even in the daytime.
- 5. If you see anything wrong, like shoes on the other side of the car but no head above the roofline, or a lumpy blanket on the back floor, you act like you’ve forgotten something and return to the building to call the police.
- 6. Do not act like you saw anything. If you act like you saw something, the predator will run while you’re calling the police and may attack someone else in 10 minutes.
