The next Audi racing legend will be the R15 TDI. This new prototype car will debut in March at the 12 hours of Sebring. The Audi will also compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. This race will be the proving ground for the new car as the last prototype, the Audi R10 TDI, went undefeated in Le Mans. Audi is up to the challenge. Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, the director for Audi Motorsport, has said, “So far the R15 TDI has performed as we expected. Now it must also prove itself in race conditions.” Audi understands how important there racing division is and they have put a lot of effort into making this the best race car ever.

The cars have not yet been officially unveiled and little is known about them. We do know that the cars feature significant technological advantages over the previous R10. The R15 will have a smaller, lighter, and more efficient engine which runs on diesel. Audi began its venture into sports car racing in 1999 with the R8. In its first race they claimed a podium spot. In 2006 Audi brought a diesel powerd race car to the track and won in its premiere race. The first time a diesel had done so. Audi’s cars keep getting better and better and this year will be no exception. Expect great things.

More information will become available as we get closer to the 12 hours of Sebring which will broadcats live on the Speed Channel on March 21st.
