The Bugatti Veyron has returned with a vengeance.
The new “Super-Sport” is the latest version of Bugatti’s crazy and super fast sports car, the Veyron. This latest version smashed Volkswagen’s test track at Ehra-Leissien and hit a whopping 268 mph.
The previous record for the Veyron was 253 mph. This was then broken by the US super car, the SSC Ultimate Aero. That vehicle reached a dizzy speed of 256 mph.
The latest Bugatti Veyron was “piloted” by the company’s own test driver, Pierre Henri Raphanel and averaged over two runs round the track a speed of 268 mph.
Upgrades
The latest version of Bugatti’s super car boasts uprated specifications from it’s older brother. The 8 litre 16 cylinder engine still remains.
The original car came with four turbo-chargers. However these have been upgraded and larger inter-coolers have been added to improve air into the turbo chargers.
This new upgrade means the new Veyron can boast 1,200 horse power – up 199 horses from the original. Most hot hatches are now around the 200 horsepower mark so such power should give the reader an idea what power lurks under the skin of the Veyron.
The bodywork has also been upgraded and redesigned, with a shell manufactured from carbon fibre which drastically reduces power sapping weight.
BBC Top Gear presenter, James May, someone notorious of being on the receiving end of jokes from his fellow presenters of the show for going too slow, took the old Veyron round the VW test track and hit a whopping 253 mph. He claimed back then such speeds “made his eyes water”.

However, people familiar with the top car show would know that the Bugatti only finished in tenth place when pitted against other cars around the show’s specialist test track and driven by the famous “Stig”.
Fellow presenter Jeremy Clarkson commented that one of the reasons for this was the car’s colossal weight.
It seems Bugatti were tuning in that night and did some tweaks to correct this problem!
