Get a Man’s Truck: The GMC Sierra Denali

Out of all the trucks offered today, the GMC Sierra Denali is the best bet for any man looking to impress.

I recently had the chance to check out all of the major trucks in the half-ton pickup segment. I looked at the Ford F-150, the Dodge Ram, the Chevy Silverado, the Toyota Tundra, and the GMC Sierra. For years my favorite truck has been the Ford F-150. I even own one of these great trucks. They are reliable and have plenty of power for any project I am working on. However, this year I have found a new favorite. That truck is the GMC Sierra Denali

This is a beautiful truck. The most rugged and understated design that is on the road right now. It is classy and not an “in your face” design, which I prefer. I loved the Ford F-150 but their new design for 2009 is not vibing well with me. The rear end looks juvenile and incomplete and I do not like the way the tailights wrap around the side of the bed. The interior is nice but so is the Sierra’s. For me the GMC has beaten out the Ford when it comes to the exterior design of a truck. This is not something I take lightly but in the end I think you will agree that this truck is much more appealling.

The Denali has the large square masculinity that a truck should have and I like the overstated fenders to give it that broad shoulder kind of look. With the Denali you get better wheel options, the standard being an 18″ polished aluminum wheel. The front grill is the best looking out of all the trucks and is miles ahead of the plastic options. With the Denali you are going to be paying extra, it starts around $40,000. However, with the current economic climate there are lots of deals to be had when purchasing a new car. I suspect you would be able to get this truck for well under the MSRP right now. I think with the features you get in this truck that the price tag is worth it.

When you sit down in the Denali you immediately notice how much nicer it is over the standard cab versions of the same truck. The Denali comes with plush leather seats that feel great yet firm enough to hold you in place. Opting for the heated and cooled front seats is a must. The optional NAV is a great feature as well with the availability to get XM radio with real-time traffic updates. Overall, the interior is nice but not over the top. This is the perfect combination.

This truck has plenty of power to get you down the road. The Denali comes with a 6.2L 400hp V8. This is the most powerful V8 offered in a half-ton truck according to GM. Also, the EPA estimates that you will get 19mpg on the highway in this truck. That is not too shabby for a 400hp V8. That of course is if you get the 2wd model. The four wheel drive truck will have a lower mileage rating. The great exterior design and powerful engine have combined to make this a great option for a half-ton pickup. Consider the GMC Sierra Denali.

Thanks for reading.

    We have a Dodge 2500 Diesel – You’d have a hard time prying my husband out of his ‘man-truck’ – Rrrr Rrrr Rrrr! This is a good article, though. Complete, well thought out, and well-researched. If I were in the market, I’d be printing this for comparison value.

    Did you spend much time looking at the Tundra? It stacks up pretty nicely against this truck. The 5.7L has less power on paper, but it’s mated to a 6-speed automatic (vs. the Denali’s 5-speed) so the truck is actually quite a bit quicker than the more powerful Denali, even with a load (PickupTrucks.com did a test that proved that quite nicely). The Tundra also gets better fuel economy. While I have to agree that the Denali’s creature comforts are excellent, the Tundra is roomier and offers many of the same features. I’m surprised you didn’t discuss the Tundra in your comparison.

    @Tundra Headquarters

    Thanks for your comment. I did look at the Tundra but preferred the Denali to the Tundra. This is much more of review than a comparison. I do agree that the Tundra has more room on the inside but I felt the cab was too big. It is huge which was actually a deterrent for me. For me, I am looking for power, amenities, exterior design, and utility. The Denali ranked on top after examining all of the options.

    That’s what Howie Long says too. Except they are paying him a fortune. Good article.
