New California Lemon Law

All cars at California dealerships, new or used, with problems must be labeled now.

On Monday, Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill into law, requiring all car dealers in the Golden State to run a report against the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System, which sweeps insurance companies, salvage yards, and junkyards, showing information about fire, flood, or impact damage. Carfax was against this, but seeing their stake in reporting vehicle history, it’s hard not to see why. It appears this service will be added to the total bill for the vehicle at $80.00, but like everything at the dealer’s lot, it’s certainly negotiable.

Personally, I approve of this – the best place for such information is out in the open – it’s hard to walk away from a new purchase a hundred percent satisfied, and this openness should go a way to increase that percentage of satisfaction.
