So, Mazda the “Zoom-Zoom” company has finally decided to come to play in the “Small” Suv market. With the retirement of the Cx-7, they lost the sporty entry into the class, but also one with the worst fuel economy. Mazda now brings the full class of Skyactiv (without the e) technologys into the class, and gets best in class fuel economy at 25 city and 31 highway in all wheel drive form, and let me tell you its possible to get this and maybe better!
I had the opportunity to take one from Centennial CO, up to fort Collins, CO last weekend, and I had a blast. Not only did it avg 33.4 MPG during my I-25 trip, It was quiet smooth and fun to drive. I loved having the USB input for my Iphone, I was able to control everything right from the radio. Now, the Cx-5 only has 155hp, but compared to my daily driver, its plenty. Its not going to beat anyone in a race, but its got plenty of power to get out of its own way. Never once did I feel the car was underpowered.
If you are driving a big V8 or 6cly, this probably won’t do. But Mazda was looking for something for the Mazda 3, or Mazda 6 driver that needed more size, and this seems to work perfectly. This would be one on the top of my list, compared to the very old and boring Rav4, the CR-V thats nice, but bland to drive, and the very different Nissan Juke, or Rouge. Mazda has a real winner here, hopefully one that can keep them here in the US Market. Inventory seems to be very light, but everyone I have seen with one loves them.
If you get an opportunity and you happen to be looking for a Smallish Crossover SUV you would be crazy not to take a look at the all new Mazda Cx-5.
