Back to the Future

Four wheels, some rubber, and sculpted metal has been the way of the car for many decades. Now, designers and engineers are getting more creative.

Four wheels, some rubber, and sculpted metal has been the way of the car for many decades. Well, to the common driver I suppose. To be honest they haven’t really changed shape much over time. They cost a small fortune to run and that MOT bill creeps up to sting your savings every year.

The designers and engineers are beginning to open up their creative side. New technologies offer versatile, compact and unlimited possibilities. We will see the classic box shape change dramatically over the years to come.

Your children will be driving around in cars you couldn’t even imagine.

This is the “GT by Citroen”. Imagine driving around in this spectacle. It looks like something out of Transformers. All it needs now is for two wings to slip out the bottom and take off before your stunned eyes. Does it come in fire blade orange?

This bubble car from Nissan looks different to say the least. I bet you get about twenty people in there. I wonder, if you had a crash would the base detach from the sphere? Does it bounce like a football causing less damage to the diver and other road users? Does it float? I can see the sales man now, holding his nerve trying to sell it.

Flight of the navigator meets Peugeot. The cool sleek aluminium curves on this beauty make it look very desirable. I would just hate to think how long it would take to clean, and how often I would be doing it. Does it come with a free hair brush?

That’s what I’m talking about. “Wow” This looks amazing. This masterpiece must be cheap to run. Looks a little bit like an early terminator. I would start to worry if it started to rain, and Mr salesman where do I plug in my MP3 player? Toyota call this the I-unit.

Peugeot have done it again with this model. There is even a table in middle for a game of connect 4. How much for this? Where do I sign? Stunning.

The Toyota motor triathlon race car. Now that’s a title with a mission. It looks like a rocket with wheels. It’s a shame you can only fit one person in as I’m sure you would want to share the frills  with someone else. The wheels alone look like there worth 100k each.

I think Mazda may be hiding something here. Surely that back end opens up into a plane or something. This car looks like it should be in James Bond movie.

Here is a concept for 2050. The person who thought this one up must have just watched the film Alien. It looks very self efficient. I like the way this image only shows half the car against a mirror.

Some great design here. Just shows the talent out there, but all we see on the road is some crappy corsa re-design!!
