In case this is of any interest, the Ferrari 375 Plus entered at Waddes-don Manor [in the Louis Vuitton concours] and praised by Leonardo Fioravanti (page 11) deserves a little more introduction.
This very 375 Plus (supposedly the 1954 Le Mans winner) was sold afterwards to John Edgar in America who entered it for Jack McAfee and Ford Robinson in the Mexican Carrera. A nasty crash (which killed Robinson) commanded a rebuild. The car was then sent back to Modena, and Sergio (not Franco) Scaglietti replaced the much-damaged Pinin Farina bodywork, producing then a totally different, sleeker design. This was Scaglietti’s main involvement with the 3 75 Plus.It was tortuous but, in those days, it was quiet enough to push along well into the 60s – especially if one was young and impetuous.Suddenly, while negotiating a 3end, the Mini Sprint’s glassfibre bonnet whipped open with a frightening crack, slamming against the windscreen removing all forward visibility — a chilling experience.
