Geo was once General Motor’s economy line of vehicles. This make was released in 1989 for the 1990 model year and was a price conscious brand. Geo released only four models until its cancellation in 1998.

Beginning

GM released the Geo to compete with the subcompact economy cars released by foreign automakers. The original slogan upon its release was “Get to know Geo.” Geo opened up its line by producing four models of cars; Metro, Tracker, Storm and Prizm.

Foreign Ties

Geo had distinct ties to foreign car companies. Each of their vehicles produced were identical to popular foreign vehicles. The related cars were; Geo Metro/Suzuki Swift, Geo Tracker/Suzuki Sidekick, Geo Storm/Isuzu I-Mark and Geo Prizm/Toyota Corolla.

Production Years

The majority of the cars produced by Geo were released through the entire life of the manufacturer. The Metro, Tracker and Prizm were all produced from 1990 through 1998. The Storm was only produced from 1990 through 1993.

The End

The Geo name was eliminated in 1997 so the final production year was 1998. Any remaining Geo models; Metro, Tracker and Prizm, were moved to the Chevrolet line-up.
