The Easy way to Clean your Car
Don’t you feel good when you’re driving down the street in a nice, new looking car? It isn’t hard to clean a car to make it look like it just came out of the showroom all it takes is a little work.
This is a good job for Saturday afternoon after you have spent the morning running around doing errands and other “Honeydew” jobs. If you go at the job like it was fun rather than just another job you will have a better looking car and a lot of fun in the bargain.
What you are going to need is rather simple if you are not going to take your car to a professional car wash are the simple basics:
1, A garden hose attached to an outdoor Faucet with cold running water.
2. An adjustable nozzle attached to the hose.
3. A plastic pail.
4. A large rubber sponge.
5. A wooden brush.
6. Automotive soap.
7. A chamois cloth. (Micro-fiber cloth can be substituted or this.)
This job should not be done with your car parked in the direct sun, park it in a shady place instead. Thoroughly soak the outside of your car with the garden hose nozzle set to make a spray rather than a stream of water.
After the power is thoroughly soaked fill up the bucket with water and add some automotive soap to make it nice and sudsy. Use a large rubber sponge to wipe over the whole exterior of your car. Once you have done this you can rinse off the soapsuds using another application of sprayed water.
Special attention has to be paid to such things as hubcaps and bumpers. This is where the wooden scrub brush comes in handy because you will want to use this in conjunction with some soapy water to clean off the hubcaps and bumpers on your car. When, they have been thoroughly cleaned you can rinse them down with a spray of water.
One of the places that most people don’t think of washing is under the door panels or other places where water may collect during a rainstorm, or from washing your car. They should be also washed out at the same time you are cleaning the exterior of your car.
Another place that is often overlooked while washing a car is the weep holes that are on the bottom of the door panel. These often become clogged with foreign matter allowing water to collect inside the door promoting rust inside the door that will eventually find its way to the outside of the door. These weep holes can be unclogged using something as simple as a broomstraw by poking it into each hole to remove any foreign matter allowing the water that runs down your windows into the inside of the door to drain out.
The final step in cleaning the outside of your car is to try it off first with soft cloth towels and giving a final wipe down with a damp chamois skin or micro-fiber cloth. You are not finished cleaning the outside of your car and it is ready to be driven away, but there are some other things that can be done to your car as well such as detailing the exterior and applying a layer of wax to your new clean Car. These steps will be outlined in future articles!
