When it comes to traveling, carpooling or cruising, tires are probably the last thing on your mind. But a set of good tires, can save you money and possibly save your life.

Proper tire care takes only a few minutes a month so why not do it? Checking your tires can help avoid danger like under inflated tires and tread wear which create extra stress and can lead to an accident.

Here is a safety checklist:

Tread- Traction, especially in bad weather, and resistance to hydroplaning is reduced as tires wear down. Tires should be replaced when the tread is worn to 2/32 of an inch.

Pressure-Check inflation pressure when the tires are cool. Heat can expand the tires. Always inflate your tires to the recommended pressure listed by your car’s manufacturer. Under inflation can lead to tire failure.

Rotation-Before rotating your tires, always read your car owner’s manual to recommendations. Irregular wear can be corrected with tire rotation.

Alignment-When you get your oil changed, have them check your alignment. Misalignment in the front or rear will cause uneven and rapid tread ware.

Make sure the tires are aligned according to your car owner’s manual.
